Nyeri locals clobber man to death in illicit brew raid

Tension remained high yesterday at Ichuga village, Kieni East in Nyeri County after a 46-year-old man was allegedly clobbered to death and another seriously injured by residents. Wachira Kabue died at Nanyuki Teaching and Referral Hospital on Wednesday morning after sustaining serious injuries inflicted on him by neighbours who were angered by his involvement in sale of illicit brew.

Drama began when Nyumba Kumi initiate members under the patronage of area chief Lucy Njeri and her assistant raided Wachira’s home on Tuesday night in search of the illicit brew which they did not find. This angered the residents who claimed Wachira was hiding the brew and descended on him with metal bars and stones.

Yesterday, Naromoru police station OCS George Odongo visited the homestead to collect more evidence.
