The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) on Tuesday morning abruptly cancelled the Nairobi nomination exercise that was scheduled to kick off across the Capital.
ODM National Elections Board stated that the sudden move was due to unavoidable circumstances and that it would announce new dates later on.
ODM Secretary General Agnes Zani told journalist that the party received information on a security breach, promoting the unexpected call to cancel the primaries.
“Something has happened for Nairobi County and it is a security breach and we are handling the situation. We have had a situation that has not been able to be controlled at the moment. It was a logistical issue that happened in the early hours of today that has not enabled us to proceed,” Zani said.
Ms Zani added that the decision was a political one: “This is a political situation, we have political dynamics and we wake up to new things every day and we have to make decisions as we move along”.
Supporters of the Orange Party were greatly aggrieved with the sudden change promoting some at a polling station in Kariokor area stage a protest.
