As party primaries are edging closer and general elections peeping, the Jubilee party and Cord coalition are facing a new headache as a number of governors are now demanding that they be offered direct nominations. Party regulations stipulate that all candidates should go through nominations, where candidates shall be given tickets to run with party tickets.
The rising political heat has made some governors to panic, and they have considerably transferred their pressure to their party leaders. Uhuru and Raila will be hurt is they dismiss some of the governors as they controll massive resources and a huge following in their parties-which will eventually bore into presidential votes.
According to The Star, ODM Governors Cornel Rasanga (Siaya), Cyprian Awiti (Homa Bay), Jack Ranguma (Kisumu) and Migori Governor Okoth Obado, who recently joined from PDP, are pressuring Raila for direct tickets. On the other hand, Jubilee is also being pressured by Nakuru governor Kinuthia Mbugua for an assured nomination.
Will Jubilee and Cord dishonor their pledge to issue nomination tickets competitively as promised? We will keep a closer eye on this political development and keep you informed, right here on Observer Politics.
