- Kenyan President, Uhuru Kenyatta led the nation in celebrating Kenyan heroes in Machakos County.
- Mashujaa day, a national holiday when Kenyans celebrate their heroes is held on every 20th day of October.
As expected, politics ensued as Kenyans celebrated Mashujaa day in Machakos. Top government officials including the new Chief Justice, Hon. David Maraga were in attendance. Other notable leaders in the list of attendees include N.A Speaker Justin Muturi, majority leader Aden Duale and CORD Principals Kalonzo Musyoka and Moses Wetangula.
President Kenyatta used his speech to make it public that he had released over 7000 petty offenders from the Kenyan prisons. The president also appealed to Kenyans to embrace unity as the country approaches its general elections. The composed president also noted that a majority of young people in the country have no memory of Kenya’s heroic past; asking them to distinguish true heroes from modern-day celebrities whose agenda is to seek fame.
Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka used his time to insist he had given up party rebels to the rival Jubilee party. Musyoka also used the opportunity to excuse former premier Raila Odinga, who apparently is on a European Tour.
